I personnally prefer mobility early on, then heavy later for endgame. I eventually always have a set of both just for fun. So which one is best? Really depends on how you want to play. In term of stealth, keep in mind that your armor also determine the noise when you hit in melee and when you shoot, so it's much easier to stay undetected with anything else than a crossbow using a light armor. 70 vs 85 is literally twice as much damage recieved. In light armor however, you will recieve much more damage compared to heavy.

Note that padded armor can also be modded with muffled connectors for ultimate sneak potential, which isn't really worth it IMO. A fully modded light armor will have next to no penalty. Your stamina using a bicycle, running, mining, fighting and pretty much anything else that use stamina will suffer a lot if wearing heavy armor even fully modded compared to light. Light is much better for sneak and gathering and can be used without much penalties even without perks. Darkness Falls is another popular 7 Days to Die mod, which aims to make the game a bit more challenging on the whole. Included in the mod are over 700 new items, including tools, consumables, weapons, and armor. Yes, they do stack or at least they were a few months ago! 7 Days to Die was one of the biggest games to come out of the early access wave. If you drink moonshine AND beer, you can be an unstoppable fist weapon tank, which is fun as hell. Drink a granpa's moonshine and you can stand in the middle of a horde on insane and survive. Still, you will feel invincible once filled with mods. Never using it for mining unless you have an auger or cycling unless you like being out of stamina all the time. skills like sexual t-rex and machine gunner. Also great once you've got many stamina regen. Heavy is great if you think you might get hit a lot, like a rough T5 or horde night.
